Qualcomm has officially introduced the Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G, its new high-end mobile processor, which is especially interesting for gaming mobiles. But first, we will tell you what its characteristics are.

Last year, Qualcomm surprised us with the launch of two high-end mobile processors, first the expected Snapdragon 855 and later the Snapdragon 855 Plus, a vitaminized smartphone variant in the year’s second half.

Rumors indicated that the North American company intended to repeat its strategy in 2020, and they have turned out to be correct. Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G, its new high-end mobile processor with more speed and higher power than the Snapdragon 865.

The corporation explains that the new chip has been designed to offer higher performance in all aspects and is specially designed to optimize the gaming experience in mobile games.

Qualcomm notes that the new chip offers desktop-quality gaming with top-notch features such as upgradeable GPU drivers and desktop rendering, 5G gaming at speeds of up to 144 fps, and accurate 10-bit HDR details.

It was not a technical presentation since no technical specifications were revealed. Although a few impressive figures have been told, as we will see. The company’s president, Cristiano Amon, has announced that Qualcomm’s following processors will focus on 5G. At the same time, various executives from companies like Xiaomi have appeared on stage to show how they are adapting their products to this new technology.

Xiaomi has announced that a new Xiaomi Mi 10 will use the Snapdragon 865 5G processor. However, it has not offered more data.

The platform offers compatibility with the Snapdragon X55 5G modem to provide access to 5G networks. And presents a series of improvements compared to its predecessor; it comprises a Qualcomm Kyro 585 Prime CPU whose central core reaches a clock speed of up to 3.1 GHz—making it 10% higher than the Snapdragon 865.

The GPU is Qualcomm Adreno 650, the same one we found in its predecessor. But, of course, the company ensures that it now offers a 10% more powerful graphics performance.
The new Snapdragon 865 5G will be on all premium Android phones in 2020. The technical data revealed today is impressive.

It will be the first processor to achieve a download speed of 2 Gbps from the Internet provider. In addition, it has 25% more GPU power, and its fifth-generation artificial intelligence engine is twice as powerful as the Snapdragon 855.

The 5G modem will be the X55 and will not be integrated into the SoC. The mobile manufacturers will decide if they want to use 5G or not with the Snapdragon 865.

In terms of power, it can decode video at 8K and 30 fps. It will also be compatible with cameras up to 200 MP.
The new processor is also compatible with Qualcomm FastConnect 6900. That enables WiFi speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps to be achieved. The fastest mobile WiFi available on the market right now.

It is expected that the phones with Snapdragon 865 Plus will be announced in the third quarter of 2020. And it has already been confirmed that it is the processor chosen by two gaming phones that will arrive soon: the ASUS ROG Phone 3 and the Lenovo Legio.
