How to capture the screenshot in Windows 8 & 10

Take a screenshot on your Windows. Windows 8 and 10 computers can use keyboard shortcuts to take and save a full-screen capture automatically, and all versions of Windows allow you to take a full-screen capture by pressing the “Print Screen” button. Other methods, such as using the Clippings Tool to choose a custom screenshot in windows and take a screenshot on a Surface device, are equally valid.

Method 1, Take a full-screen capture in Windows 8 and 10

Step 1

To take a screenshot in windows, go to the screen you want to capture. You must ensure that it has no distractions (such as open windows or programs)

Step 2

Press the key “Print Screen” on the keyboard. The Print Screen key is usually available on the right side of the central console and often has “Pettis” (“System Request”) written below.

Or usually be abbreviated as “ImpPnt” or something similar.

Step 3

Push the ⊞ Win key & Print Screen key at the same time. It will take a screenshot of the current screen; In most cases, you will see that the screen dims briefly.

The screen will not dim if your computer has individual screen settings disabled. It is more common on older machines that have updated to Windows 10.
If the screenshot does not appear when you search for it, press Ctrl + ⊞ Win + Print screen or Fn + ⊞ Win + Print screen.

Step 4

Find the screenshot in the windows. You will find it in the “Screenshots” folder, which is inside the “Images” folder of the computer. Each screenshot you take will be labeled “Screenshot (number)” to match the order in which the capture takes.

Such as, the 1st screenshot you take will be labeled “Screenshot (1)”, etc.

Method 2 Take a full-screen capture on any Windows computer

Step 1

To take a screenshot, go to the screen you want to capture. Before taking the screenshot, you must ensure that it has no distractions (for example, open windows or programs).

Step 2

Press the Print Screen key. It is usually located on the upper right side of the keyboard, just to the right of the “Function” key row (for example, at the top of the keyboard pre F(12) key. Press the print screen key to take a screenshot of the contents on the entire screen.

The Print Screen key could be called “ImpPnt” (or “PrtSc” in English) or something similar.
If your computer has an Fn key on the lower left side, you may have to press Print Screen and Fn simultaneously.

Step 3

Open Paint This program is installed on all Windows computers. To open it:

  • Click on the Start menu Windowsstart.png.
  • In Windows 8, open Search in the start menu.
  • Write Paint.
  • In Windows 8, Paint will be in the search results.
  • Windows XP-based computer Paint is available on Accessories Tab

Step 4

Open the paint app on windows. Once the Paint window opens, paste the screenshot by pressing “Ctrl + V.” You will see it on Paint

  • To save the screenshot, press Ctrl + S, enter a name for the capture, select a folder to keep on the left side of the window, and click Save. You can change the screenshot file type by clicking on the “Save as type” at the bottom of the window in the drop-down box and then clicking on a different format (for example, JPEG) in the drop-down menu.
  • The file types are JPG and PNG. The recommended format for screenshots is PNGbecause of high quality and small file size.
  • Method 3 Take a screenshot of a single window.
  • To take a screenshot, click on the window you want to capture. The only window screen capture function will take a picture of the “active” window on your screen, which means it must be in front of all other windows.

Step 2

Hold Alt and press ImpPnt. When the screenshot in windows takes, the window’s size will determine the image’s dimensions.

Step 3

Open Paint This program is installed on all computers. To open it:

  • Start menu Windowsstart.png
  • In Windows 8, open Search in the start menu.
  • Write Paint.
  • In Windows 8, Paint will be in the search results.
  • For a Windows XP computer, select Accessories and click on Paint.

Step 4

Paste the screenshot once you load the Paint screen, press Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot.

You can also paste it within other programs, such as Word, or in the body of an email. Simply open the program you want to paste the image and press Ctrl + V.

Step 5

Save the screenshot as an image file. Click File, then click Save, and enter a file name. To saveFile, click on a location on the left side of the page and click Save.

You can change the screenshot file type by clicking on the “Save as type” at the bottom of the window and by clicking on a different format (for example, JPEG) in the drop-down menu.
The file types are JPG and PNG, which are common. PNG is recommended format for screenshots because of its high quality and small file size.

Method 4 Use the Clip Tool program

Step 1

Open the Clip Tool. The Clippings Tool is available in all versions of Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10 except for the Starter and Basic editions.

In Windows 7 and Vista, click on the Start button, select All Programs, select Accessories and select the Clippings Tool from the list.
In Windows 8, simply start typing the clippings tool on the Start screen and select it from the search results. On Windows 10, select Start Image titled Windowsstart.png, type clippings tool, and choose the Clippings tool from the search results.

Step 2

Choose the shape of the cutout. The “Rectangular Cutout” is chosen by default. To change the clipping shape, click the arrow button next to the Mode button.

Freeform Trimming allows you to draw any way with the mouse. The area inside the configuration will trim.
The rectangular Trim allows you to select a square area that will be trimmed.
Window Trimming allows you to choose a window to crop.
Full-Screen Trim cuts the entire screen, including all windows (except for the Crop Tool).

Step 3

Adjust the edge of the crop. By default, any cut you make will have a red border around it. You can change or deactivate it by clicking on the Tools tab on the upper left side of the Clippings toolbar, selecting Options from the drop-down menu, and unchecking; this will remove the edge of any cuts in the future.

Step 4

Create a new cutout. Click on the New button to start the selection. The screen will dim, and you can draw the cropping area or select the window if you choose the window clipping. Release the mouse when deciding to create the crop.

If you have selected the Full-Screen Crop option, Automatically, it will create once you click New.

Step 5

Note in the cutout. Once you create the clipping, it will open in a new window. You can use a tool like Pencil to draw on it and take notes and the Highlighter Marker tool to attract attention to the text.

The Eraser tool will only erase annotations, not the screen capture itself.

Step 6

Save the clipping. Click on the floppy disk icon to open the save dialog. Enter a name for the screenshot and change the “Save as type:” field if desired. Now you can send it by email or upload it to a web page.

In Windows 7 and 8, the default format is PNG. It is a lossless compressed format, which will save high-quality screenshots with small file sizes. It is recommended to take screenshots.
The default format in Windows Vista is JPG or JPEG. It is a format with loss, which means that the screenshot will look slightly squared, and some colors may turn off. It is designed primarily for photographs and is not recommended for screenshots.
The GIF format is not suitable for reproducing color photos. Still, it is ideal for images such as logos, graphics, etc., with substantial areas of color, which results in sharp edges between the color areas.

Step 7

Copy the clipping. The excerpt is copied to the clipboard when you create it. You can paste it to Paint or Word, just as you would with a full-screen capture. More edits can be made in Paint than in the clip annotation editor.

To paste the crop, open a window that allows the “paste” function and press Ctrl + V
