Mid-range mobiles have become a sector with weight in the smartphone industry. It is no longer only necessary to take care of the details of the most premium terminals. To compete in this price range, Samsung has put a lot of effort into improving its Galaxy A family, whose podium would be the Samsung Galaxy A71.

This terminal moves in rugged terrain, it is still within the mid-range, but its price exceeds 400 euros, so essential improvements are expected. Its characteristics are halfway between the standard mid-range and the novelties and improvements presented by high-end mobiles.

A large screen, a quality processor, sound design, battery, and complete photographic equipment. At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy A71 complies in all sections, but appearances will not fool us. We have tested each element of this mobile to see if it is worth buying.

Simple and comfortable, mobile for all styles

Samsung has found an almost perfect design for its mid-range line, the Galaxy A series. Of course, each model has those little details that set them apart from the rest, but they all share a characteristic style that is very successful, in our opinion.

They are elegant because of the simplicity they look without being flashy. The colors and sparkles on the casings make them stand out without shrillness, and, most importantly, they are comfortable to wear. The Galaxy A71 we analyzed today would not be less; it meets all these qualities.

Galaxy A71 with a Large screen with HDR and a hole for the camera

We continued talking about the screen, which we had already advanced its proper size. It is a 6.7-inch, SuperAMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. This translates into a pixel density of 400 dpi, a very positive quality for those looking to enjoy videos with it.

Its format is 20: 9 because the manufacturer has chosen to drill the screen to integrate the front camera into a hole that presides over the panel in the center of the top. It is a way of giving more prominence to the screen and that the camera does not excessively disturb the functions of the mobile. With us, you end up forgetting that that black point is there.

One of the best qualities of this screen is that it has HDR, which achieves a more excellent dynamic range of colors and lights, allowing the image to be more realistic. In addition, we can highlight the brightness level; in 100% brightness mode with the entire screen blank, we have measured an average of more than 630 Lux with a peak when only one area of the screen is illuminated above 800 Lux.

Snapdragon 730, performance to spare for any user

We go into the deepest part of the terminal; it’s time to talk about its processor, the engine that ensures that the fluidity of this model is adequate. The Galaxy A71 is equipped with the Snapdragon 730, a Qualcomm proposal for upper-middle-range phones.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 was introduced as the relay for the Snapdragon 710. just below the area of influence of the Qualcomm 800 range, but taking some of its exclusive features. It is a processor manufactured in an 8-nanometer lithograph that integrates the fourth generation of Qualcomm’s artificial intelligence engine.

Eight Kryo 470 cores and an integrated Adreno 618 GPU take care of getting the power. This chip stands out in the support for WiFi 6 (WiFi ax) thanks to the fact that it mounts the X15 modem. It is compatible with sensors of up to 92 megapixels at the photographic level. And the ability to record 4K video with HDR in portrait mode.

Android 10 with OneUI, clean and smooth customization layer

All the performance in the world is useless if the operating system does not accompany it. Samsung continues to bet on its Android-based personalization layer. And it is not surprising since it has one of the best proposals on the market.

The Galaxy A71 has come into our hands with the OneUI 2 version based on Android 10. The most current versions of both systems and the most complete so far in terms of functions.

The fact of not having a clean Android implies more weight for the internal memory and more work for the processor. But Samsung has made a great effort to keep the interface as simple as possible. The result is software that offers a colorful image with simple, good-sized icons. And well-kept multitasking support, with no unexpected closings in the background.

Galaxy A71 with Biometric systems

Within the software section, we also have to address a vital issue for security: the biometric systems protect the mobile phone and our data from outside eyes.

The fingerprint reader and facial recognition take place on the front of the phone. The fingerprint sensor is located under the screen, and the facial recognition system is done through the front camera.

The technology that hides the fingerprint reader under the screen means that the sensor is not as fast or practical as the capacitive readers on the back cover of mobile phones. It is somewhat complicated to place the fingerprint, so the phone does not ask you to put it back because it does not finish recognizing you.

In the case of facial recognition is somewhat more comfortable; you have to press the power button for the mobile to proceed to analyze your face, and then it is unlocked. But, of course, depending on the light of the moment, it can make mistakes and not recognize you. Both are innovative technologies gradually improving in effectiveness and speed but are still less desirable options.

A powerful photographic quartet that we expected more

The combination of four rear cameras has been established in most high-end mobile phones onwards. Each model differs from the others by the capacity of those four cameras and their peculiarities. For the Galaxy A71, Samsung has opted for a compelling set, although unsuitable for all situations.

Starting at the top, we have the 5 Mpx depth sensor with an f / 2.2 aperture. The primary 64 Mpx camera followed us with f / 1an a .8 gap responsible for capturing the images in greater detail and light. Next is an ultra-wide-angle sensor of 12 Mpx and an aperture of f / 2.2. And next to it is the macro sensor of 5 Mpx and f / 2.4. On the front, the camera is 32 Mpx and f / 2.2, which we will discuss later.

On the other hand, the camera application has its pros and cons. Easy to use and quick to understand, with rapid movement, you reach most of the elements needed to control every detail of the photograph. If you want to use the wide-angle, capture the images with the highest possible quality. Activate the timer, the mode Night, Macro mode, or record a video.

Galaxy A71 with Good autonomy and even better fast charge

It would be useless to have such a mobile if independence did not allow us to end the day comfortably. Samsung has chosen a 4,500 mAh battery that has allowed us to use the phone for more than 24 hours without worrying about dying.

It is good news, although we did not expect less for the mobile of its category. We can watch videos, take photos, check messages, and get home with plenty of margins. If the day has been calm and we have not been stuck to the phone. We can even extend its battery until the next day.

NFC, WiFi AC, Bluetooth 5.0, and minijack, nothing is missing

Throughout 2019 the connectivity of mobiles has been stabilizing; the differences between one model and another are no longer so significant in this section. Only the new 5G networks mark a turning point among current smartphones. And even this novelty will end up being found in most terminals.

The Samsung Galaxy A71 is an example you can not fault for its connectivity. This mobile phone has a WiFi AC and dual-band at 2.4 and 5 GHz, USB Type-C, and Bluetooth 5.0. That is the latest standard that the industry has established.
