Asus brings its two-screen laptop to the gaming world with the Zephyrus Duo 2020
Asus has just unveiled its new gaming laptops. As usual in the company, the announcement is accompanied by the banner of “our most powerful gaming laptop.” But in this case, there is more, and it is that it is the Asus Zephyrus Duo, a gaming laptop with two screens that can give a lot of games. In recent months, some manufacturers have joined the trend of launching two-screen gaming laptops. Each has its way of proceeding, but Asus has chosen to create an ultra-wide display located at the bottom of the main screen.
Last year we had a chance to review the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo laptop. And the new Zephyrus Duo features a very similar design. But a straightforward gaming approach both for power and for the cooling solution that Asus has taken out of its sleeve. First of all, we leave you with the technical characteristics of the Asus Zephyrus Duo :

The Zephyrus family is dominant and, above all, much more portable than other gaming laptops. Its dimensions are microscopic, thanks to a very narrow chassis and some internal components that are very “tight.” It generates heat in any laptop, especially in gaming like the one at hand. And the new Zephyrus Duo of 2020 has the most powerful family of GPUs, the RTX 2070 and 2080 Super, with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory and the new-generation Intel gaming.
We can choose the “base” model, the i7-10875H, but also for the top of the range, an Intel Core i9-10980HK with eight cores and 16 threads at a frequency of up to 4.4 GHz and that, besides, comes factory unlocked so that we can overclock. As you imagine, these elements get hot, and conventional dissipation slots would not be enough to expel all that heat. So Asus gaming laptop takes advantage of the unique design of the second screen.
The Zephyrus Duo’s main display can be configured as 4K at 60Hz or Full HD at 300Hz with a response of just three milliseconds. It is a very suitable IPS screen to play in 16: 9 formats, but what is striking is the screen that is just below. It is a screen with a 32: 9 form that we can divide into three, into two, or leave in ultra-wide format, and that, when we open the laptop lid, it rises a few millimeters. In this way, the vision of the content is more natural for our eyes, and it is easier to interact with the touch panel; besides, it allows air to enter from the top.
Thus, this gaming laptop has air intake grills on both the top and bottom to cool the processor and the graphics. According to Asus, to operate at maximum performance without any cut in the experience or the dreaded tethering.
Of course, in addition to air cooling, Asus highlights that they have replaced the thermal paste with liquid metal, which conducts heat better. But it also conducts electricity, so the laptop has a compartment to prevent leaks.
Laptop Software designed to extract juice from the second screen
In addition to hardware, the new Zephyrus Duo laptop stands out for its software. And if not, the Screen Pad Plus (the second screen is called) would be underused. The company’s goal is for developers to use this screen to move elements of the HUD from the main screen to the secondary display and thus have a more cinematic experience.
Some games are already being developed with this in mind, such as Dying Light 2. Besides, Asus laptop collaborates with Overwolf so that its real-time video game statistics app (information on best plays, tips. in competitive games) is displayed on that secondary screen.
In addition to specific software, we can create several workspaces with different windows. For example, during game playing and want to monitor the state of the PC, we can bring the game to the main screen and have the Asus software that controls the temperature, the OC, and those parameters in a secondary window on the touch screen.
There are also new features in the battery
When we buy a gaming laptop, we do not think about taking it out on the street or on public transport both by weight and, above all, by the battery. In this sense, weight is not a problem; the cell also grows in size. It doubles the size of cells that we usually see in gaming laptops and goes to 90 Wh. In addition to charging with the 240W charger with a proprietary connector, it costs via 65W USB Type-C Power Delivery. It is easy to carry several devices in the backpack with a single charger.
Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo laptop price and launch
At Asus’ presentation, everything was discussed. Except for the cost of the Zephyrus Duo laptop. We know it will be available soon, but we have no news on the price. But it is the most advanced gaming laptop from the Taiwanese company, and we cannot wait to sink our teeth into the software of that secondary screen.
